A tragic accident involving a public bus occurred on May 30, 2026, when the driver, Terrance Thomas, experienced a sudden medical emergency. The incident happened around 4:25 p.m., while the bus was en route to Port of Spain. Due to the emergency, the bus veered off the road in the vicinity of Macoya.
Emergency response personnel were quick to arrive at the scene, providing immediate assistance to the passengers and the ailing driver. All those affected in the accident, including Thomas, were promptly transported to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mount Hope for medical treatment.
The Public Transportation Service Corporation, under whose operation the bus was running, released a statement following the incident. The corporation expressed its commitment to the highest safety standards and assured the public that the well-being of passengers, employees, and the broader community remains its top priority. Despite this unfortunate event, the corporation affirms to continue its efforts in maintaining and enhancing safety measures.
