Guyana: President Ali Encourages Guyanese to Embrace Sacrifice, Faith, and Peace

President Dr. Irfaan Ali has called on citizens to reflect on the values of faith, patience, sacrifice, and personal responsibility in promoting peace within their homes, communities, and the broader world during the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha. He delivered this message while participating in prayers at the Leonora Masjid on Wednesday.

In his address, President Ali highlighted the significance of faith in overcoming both personal and national challenges. He acknowledged that in a world filled with difficulties and uncertainties, it is easy for individuals to lose faith. However, he emphasized that it is during challenging times that belief should be strongest. He stated, “When we look in our world today, and we look in our communities, we realize how important it is, and how easy it is for one to lose faith.”

The President pointed out that true strength of faith is often revealed in difficult circumstances, stating, “When the most is expected of us, and the circumstances are dire, that is when we need to showcase the extent of our faith.”

Additionally, he spoke about the importance of patience and the acceptance of Allah’s will, noting that many issues arise when individuals do not approach life’s challenges with understanding and restraint. He remarked, “Many things go wrong because we lack the patience, we lack the understanding to accept that everything is the will of Allah.”

President Ali connected the religious significance of Eid-ul-Adha to daily life, asserting that sacrifice should not be viewed merely as a one-time act but as an ongoing commitment to family, community, and country. He stated, “Sacrifice also reminds us of our personal life, and what is expected of us in our communities, in our country, and as leaders in our families.”

He urged citizens to work hard to provide for their families and contribute to the development of Guyana, emphasizing the need for sacrifices that lead to stronger families and better communities. “That we are expected to make sacrifices, sacrifices to ensure that we leave behind a better community, a better country, a better family,” he added.

On this occasion, President Ali also offered a prayer for peace and unity, both within Guyana and globally. He stressed that the responsibility for peace lies not only with governments or global leaders but begins with individuals in their daily lives. “All of us have a duty and responsibility to ensure that there is peace in our homes, peace in our communities and peace for all of humanity,” he stated.

In conclusion, President Ali conveyed that the message of Eid-ul-Adha serves as a reminder that sacrifice, patience, and service should guide citizens’ actions every day. He remarked, “The sacrifice today is not only a one-off act; it is a reminder to us of what is expected of us every single day of our life.” This message was part of broader Eid-ul-Adha observances across the country, where Muslim communities gathered for prayer and reflection to commemorate this significant occasion on the Islamic calendar.
