Collective Energies and OWTU Forge Crucial Partnership for Energy Sector Upskilling

Collective Energy Limited and the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union (OWTU) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) aimed at preparing local workers for upcoming opportunities in Trinidad and Tobago’s energy sector.

The agreement, signed at the OWTU headquarters, will focus on training, retraining and developing the skills needed to meet the changing demands of the industry as new investment opportunities emerge.

Energy consultant Dr. Joseph Khan said the partnership is centered on building local capacity and ensuring Trinidad and Tobago’s workforce is ready to benefit from future growth in the sector. He noted that the country’s energy industry is entering a period where skilled local workers will be increasingly important.

The initiative is also expected to support government efforts to strengthen workforce development while attracting foreign investment linked to the country’s natural resources.

OWTU President General Ancel Roget said the agreement comes at an important time for the sector, which has faced years of slowdown and uncertainty. He expressed optimism that renewed investment and stronger training programmes could help revive the industry and create new opportunities for citizens.

Both parties said the partnership will help close skills gaps and better position workers to take advantage of advancements in the energy industry. The agreement is also expected to encourage long term development within the sector while supporting economic growth.

Officials described the MOU as a step toward ensuring Trinidad and Tobago’s workforce remains competitive and prepared for the future of the country’s energy industry.
