Cuban Authorities Report Continued Deficits in Electricity Generation

Cuba is grappling with severe electricity generation deficits, which have reached 990 MW as of early Sunday morning. The Minister of Energy and Mines, Lázaro Guerra Hernández, reported that these deficits are primarily driven by elevated demand and inadequate generation capacity, compounded by high temperatures impacting consumption levels. On Saturday, the peak generation capacity hit 1,742 MW, but expectations indicate a slight improvement today with a forecasted maximum demand deficit of 850 MW. Despite these challenges, officials remain cautiously optimistic about improved generation, attributing some maintenance issues to the ongoing difficulties in supply. The situation remains critical as the nation seeks to stabilize its electricity grid amid persistent demand challenges.
