The Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has welcomed 55 new officers following the graduation of recruit course number 48, held on April 24, 2026. The ceremony, emphasizing the theme “Forged by adversity, bound by oath and destined to stand as the unyielding shield of the nation,” underscored the recruits’ dedication to serving and protecting Grenada in an increasingly challenging crime landscape.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Jesmyn Prince addressed the new officers, emphasizing that wearing the police uniform represents more than law enforcement duties; it embodies a trust that officers must earn daily. Prince reminded the recruits of their commitment to protect and serve fairly, navigating both routine and challenging situations within their new roles.
The training undergone by these recruits is notably different from previous programs, incorporating sessions on financial investigation and asset recovery. This reflects an acknowledgment by the RGPF of the necessity to adapt to the growing complexity and sophistication of crimes within Grenada. Superintendent Desmond Richard, commandant of the Police Training School, highlighted the global crime trends influencing local policing, stating that crime is no longer purely local. Instead, it has become interconnected and adaptive, requiring officers to act as both responders and intelligence gatherers.
In addition to the cutting-edge training modules, the ceremony recognized individual excellence within the group. PC Marlee Samuel was awarded the Baton of Honour, the highest accolade given at the police training school. This year’s recruit cohort was also notable for being led exclusively by women instructors and assistant instructors, signaling progress towards greater gender equality within the RGPF.
The graduation event not only celebrated the accomplishments of these new officers but also reiterated the RGPF’s commitment to evolving and enhancing their crime-fighting capabilities. By equipping their officers with new skills and knowledge, the police force aims to address the intricate challenges posed by modern criminal activities, ensuring safety and justice for the people of Grenada.
