THA Chief Secretary Warns Tour Operators After Fatal Incident, Plans Stronger Enforcement Measures

Following a fatal incident at Pigeon Point Heritage Park, THA Chief Secretary Farley Augustine has issued a stern warning to tour operators conducting business within the Buccoo Marine Park. He insists on their full compliance with all existing rules and regulations or they could face legal consequences. The incident involved a jet ski operator and a seven-year-old girl, Angelica Jogie.

In a media briefing on Thursday, Augustine emphasized that the Tobago House of Assembly will no longer tolerate any breaches of the law by operators using THA-owned spaces. He hinted that the circumstances surrounding the incident could potentially represent a breach of existing regulations.

While the THA lacks authority to pursue criminal charges, Augustine mentioned that civil proceedings against those found in violation are under consideration. He warned that such actions could potentially bankrupt operators who fail to adhere to the rules.

Augustine also unveiled plans for stronger and more robust enforcement measures to be implemented within the next two weeks. However, he stressed that this effort would require greater cooperation from law enforcement agencies to be successful. Finally, Augustine expressed his heartfelt condolences to the Jogie family and assured them of THA’s continued support.
