Wallerfield, a neighborhood in Arima, has been staggered by two killings in less than 24 hours. Early Wednesday morning, residents were horrified to discover another murder, this time involving a man found bound and brutally injured. The victim was identified as Beno Hogan, a resident of Block 3 Road. Police were alerted to the incident following reports of loud explosions around 12:40 a.m. on April 8.
Upon arrival, officers discovered Hogan in a small wooden structure, bound and with severe head injuries. Witnesses reported hearing two loud explosions, which were quickly followed by the sound of a vehicle speeding away from the vicinity. Hogan was pronounced dead at the scene by a district medical officer.
This second act of violence comes hot on the heels of another deadly shooting that took place in the same district just hours prior. In that incident, a man named Gary Anthony Leroy Francis was shot and killed in his home. Tragically, two others, including Francis’s pregnant girlfriend, were also wounded in the attack.
Initial investigations suggest that the perpetrators forced their way into the residence, opened fire, and then fled the scene. Officers collected several spent 9mm shell casings and deformed projectiles as evidence. The police are currently considering the possibility that these two incidents may be connected, and investigations are ongoing.
