A Waymo passenger recently experienced a memorable ride, treating the autonomous vehicle as her own private space. She was enjoying her ride with loud music, dancing, singing, and completely overlooked her seatbelt. However, Waymo’s intelligent monitoring system didn’t miss this oversight.
In the middle of her ride, the system activated a connection to a live support agent. The agent, in a calm manner, reminded the passenger to buckle up for her safety. The moment she realized that she was under surveillance, she immediately fastened her seatbelt.
The incident served as a reminder that autonomous doesn’t mean unmonitored. Even without a driver behind the wheel, Waymo’s technology ensures the rules of the road are still in effect and passenger safety is a priority.
The ride continued as normal after the incident, but it certainly raises questions about comfort levels with constant surveillance in autonomous vehicles. Would passengers feel at ease knowing that a live agent can intervene during their ride at any moment?
