Over 700 Serious Crimes Reported in January

A total of 725 serious crimes were reported across Trinidad and Tobago in January 2026, according to figures presented in the Senate.

In February, the number dropped to 479 reported offenses, though officials noted that the figures remain provisional and subject to verification. Detection rates were significantly lower, with 212 crimes solved in January and 85 in February.

Authorities explained that delays in publishing official crime statistics are partly due to ongoing upgrades to the police service website, where such data is typically made available to the public.

The figures highlight ongoing concerns about crime levels and detection rates, with calls for improved transparency and faster access to official data. Officials indicated that once system upgrades are complete, updated statistics will be published for public review.
