44 Undocumented Immigrants Detained in Southern Division Anti-Crime Sweep

In an anti-crime operation carried out by the Southern Division Task Force last Sunday, 44 undocumented immigrants were detained. The operation took place in Malgretoute Village, Princes Town, at a property suspected of being a hub for illegal activities such as gambling and cockfighting. The exercise spanned from 6:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.

Upon officers’ arrival, several individuals attempted to flee the scene, with some resorting to jumping from the second floor. In addition to the undocumented immigrants, 50 Trinidad and Tobago citizens were also detained during the operation.

One male immigrant suffered injuries in his attempt to evade capture and is currently under police guard at a medical facility. Authorities have reported that he is cooperating with investigators in a probe involving forged documents.

The operation was spearheaded by senior officers from the Southern Division, with support from the Central Division Task Force and the Criminal Investigations Department. This exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to address illegal immigration and associated criminal offenses. The public has been encouraged to report any suspicious activities to law enforcement.
