Hardware Owner Duped with Fake Bank Transfer

A 53-year-old owner of QSP Hardware in San Juan was allegedly duped into releasing $29,000 worth of construction materials through a fake bank transfer screenshot. This incident started when a man identified as ‘Anthony’ contacted the businessman via WhatsApp expressing his interest to purchase materials. On March 10, ‘Anthony’ sent a screenshot purporting to be a $29,000 online transfer from First Citizens Bank, which made the businessman believe he had received the payment and proceeded to release the materials. These were collected and reportedly transported to another hardware store in the Carenage district. It was later discovered that no payment had been received. Police attempts to contact the suspect have been unsuccessful, and CCTV footage from the hardware store is now part of the ongoing investigation.
