Concerns are being raised by two Islamic organizations, the Jamaat al-Muslimeen and the Islamic Missionaries Guild, over the rights of Muslim detainees at Teteron Barracks in Chaguaramas during Ramadan. The groups allege that the detainees are unable to fully practice their religion during this holy period. They claim that detainees are being denied access to Qur’ans, suitable dietary accommodations, proper prayer arrangements, and religious guidance. The leader of Jamaat al-Muslimeen, Sadiq Al Razi, has called for urgent intervention, but no formal response has been received yet. This situation brings into focus the ongoing debate about the treatment and legal status of detainees at Teteron Barracks, some of whom were transferred during the State of Emergency and remain detained without charges. Islamic leaders are urging the State to respect religious freedom, especially during Ramadan.
