Guyanese Olympian, Jasmine Abrams, has announced her participation in the Enhanced Games, a new and contentious sporting event set to take place in Las Vegas come May. The Enhanced Games, a brainchild of Australian entrepreneur Aron D’Souza, have been in the global spotlight due to the permission granted to athletes to use performance-enhancing drugs under medical supervision, a practice strictly prohibited in traditional Olympic and international competitions. While some hail this as a breakthrough that pushes human performance boundaries and eliminates the duplicity surrounding doping in top-tier sports, others believe it undermines fair play and poses a threat to athletes’ health. The event will feature track and field, swimming, and weightlifting, with lucrative financial incentives for participants, including a US$1 million bonus for those who set world records in selected events. Despite the controversy, Abrams joins a growing roster of international competitors ready to compete in the Games.
