A 29-year-old pipefitter is convalescing in a hospital after being shot while driving on a Penal road on late Saturday night. The incident occurred as the victim was driving a white Nissan Tiida on Sunrees Road Extension around 11:10 p.m. Accompanied by his mother and a family friend, they were startled by two loud explosions, soon after which the victim felt a burning sensation in his upper back realizing he’d been shot. Despite his injuries, the victim managed to drive himself to the Siparia District Health Facility for initial treatment, before being transferred to Point Fortin Area Hospital for further medical attention. Police later discovered a single bullet hole in the rear door of the vehicle that had penetrated the driver’s seat, confirming the shot came from outside. Crime scene investigators have processed the vehicle and are continuing investigations in the area where the incident occurred.
