A mother of three from Trinidad, 34-year-old Salisha Ali, who had migrated to the United States in search of a better life, was allegedly murdered by a 75-year-old man. Detectives suspect the man dismembered Ali’s body and scattered it in various locations last year. Ali’s torso was found in a marshy area of Idlewild Park, near JFK Airport, in September. In March, sanitation workers discovered her head in the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, and other body parts were found following an extensive police search. Ali was identified by her tattoos, and DNA testing confirmed her identity. The man, who was already a suspect, was charged with murder, obstructing governmental administration, and tampering with physical evidence. Ali was reported missing after she stopped answering calls. Despite several attempts to reach Ali, all proved futile. Ali’s last contact with her family was in July, via a video call. A missing report was lodged with the Trinidad and Tobago consular’s office in New York. Ali reportedly met the man in Trinidad and travelled to the US to be with him.
