Children’s Authority Gets 411 Abuse Calls Monthly

Officials from the Children’s Authority revealed that the agency continues to receive hundreds of reports of alleged child abuse each month across Trinidad and Tobago.
During a joint select parliamentary committee session, representatives said the authority currently receives an average of about 411 calls per month reporting suspected abuse or mistreatment of children.
Authorities explained that the figure reflects nationwide reports, not just cases occurring within children’s homes.
Officials said the continued volume of reports highlights the need for greater community awareness and collective responsibility in protecting children.
They emphasized that stronger reporting channels have also made it easier for individuals to come forward with concerns.
The authority says each report is assessed and investigated through a process involving social workers, psychologists, and other professionals.
