The Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has announced new traffic rules that will take effect from March 2, 2026. The new system includes a grace period for drivers to fix certain vehicle offenses before facing a fine. Under this system, drivers will receive a Fixed Penalty Warning instead of an immediate Fixed Penalty Notice for 18 specified traffic violations. The warning gives drivers a specific timeframe to correct the issue. Once repairs are completed and verified, no fine will be imposed. However, if the issue is not resolved within the given time, the warning will convert into a Fixed Penalty Notice and the driver will be required to pay the fine. The new rules are designed to promote safety, encourage compliance, and favour corrective action over immediate punishment.
