Woman Duped by Fake Bank Transfer in $26,739 Rental Scam

A woman from Diego Martin is grappling with the loss of a $26,739 rental fee after a man used a fraudulent bank transfer to secure her fully furnished Victoria Keys apartment. The incident occurred on 13th February 2026 when she agreed for a short term rental with the man, who identified himself as Carmichael S. Mascall. The apartment was rented for the high-demand Carnival weekend. She received what looked like a valid online bank transfer receipt for $26,739 and permitted the apartment’s occupation. However, she discovered the receipt to be a scam after checking with her bank on 18th February. By this time, the apartment had been occupied for several days. Upon discovering the deceit, she remotely barred access to the apartment, but the culprit had already left. The matter is under police investigation.
