Minister Padarath Denies Intoxication Allegations at Hyatt Fete

Public Utilities Minister Barry Padarath found himself in a controversial situation as a video of him being booed at the Hyatt Lime Carnival event went viral. The incident occurred on Wednesday night and has since stirred public discussions. Padarath, who was seen on stage, has denied allegations of being intoxicated, stating, ‘I wasn’t drunk.’ The minister attributed the situation to the festive Carnival atmosphere and maintained that he did not utter any inappropriate comments. He was on stage to applaud the Works and Infrastructure Minister Jearlean John, crediting her as the founder of the Hyatt fete and acknowledging her previous role as the UDeCOTT chairman. Despite the booing from parts of the crowd, Padarath continued to address the audience, urging them to participate in the festive mood. He stated the booing came from a minority while many patrons were supportive. The video, which was just under two minutes, has been widely circulated on social media. It has drawn criticism from Opposition MP Marvin Gonzales who claimed Padarath behaved in a ‘drunken manner.’ Padarath dismissed the criticism, arguing that the opposition is using the incident to criticize the UNC Government. He reiterated that he was commending his colleague Jearlean John’s work.
