In the afternoon, Barrat was on the beach when she learned her son, Gabriel, was having issues swimming in chest-deep water. He vanished beneath the waves, and the other two relatives he was with managed to reach the beach to sound the alarm. The police, Coast Guard, and National Air Guard all joined the search, aided by local fishermen and Search and Rescue crews. They’ve been tirelessly scanning the sea and beach for signs of Gabriel. The Rio Claro/Mayaro Regional Corporation officials have also stepped in to help, providing the family with tents for temporary shelter as the round-the-clock search continues.
