Soca artist J Angel is considering leaving Trinidad after Carnival due to her disappointment with the local music industry’s ongoing bias. She has spent 12 years in the industry, making significant personal sacrifices, including selling her car to support her career. Despite being the only female competitor in the 2026 Road March competition with her song ‘Leggo’, she feels her work has not been adequately recognized or supported. Post-Carnival, she plans to move to her grandfather’s birthplace where she has been invited to continue her soca career, working alongside the government. This revelation has sparked online discussions about the support for local artists, particularly female soca artists, and the challenges they face in achieving regular radio play during the Carnival season.
