In response to the damage inflicted on the MV Blue Wave Harmony, a barge has been secured to ensure the continuity of cargo transportation to Tobago, as stated by Chief Secretary Farley Augustine. The Port Authority of Trinidad and Tobago has engaged a 67-meter barge for a ten-day period, beginning tomorrow, to carry goods that are unsuitable for passenger vessels. The barge, capable of transporting over 7,000 kilograms of cargo per trip, including hazardous materials, livestock, and bulk cargo, will function on an appointment-based booking system, accommodating approximately 30 trucks. The cost of this arrangement remains undisclosed. Furthermore, Augustine confirmed that NIDCO has planned for the reintroduction of the Buccoo Reef from February 9, 2026, a vessel capable of carrying 948 passengers and 160 vehicles.
