Homeland Security Minister Roger Alexander has responded to public concerns over the police shooting of Joshua Samaroo and Kaia Sealy, rejecting allegations of cover-up. The incident, which took place on January 20, ignited public outrage and distrust in the police service with calls for Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro’s resignation. Alexander assured that the investigation is ongoing and Commissioner Guevarro has provided a timeline for its completion. He warned against generalizing all police officers based on this incident, and stressed that social media often distorts the situation by omitting key parts of events. Despite calls for his and Commissioner Guevarro’s resignation, Alexander asserted that neither will occur. In response to the incident, four separate investigations have been initiated.
