The arrest followed formal complaints by four young women who accused Harragin of cyber-related crimes. The police took swift action, leading to Harragin’s arrest at a local laboratory. Despite the allegations, Harragin denies any involvement, claiming his mobile phone was stolen and later hacked, leading to the non-consensual distribution of the videos. Police have seized electronic devices and initiated a full-scale cybercrime investigation to understand the extent of the violations under Guyana’s cybercrime and sexual offences laws. The case is still under investigation, and formal charges have yet to be laid. The incident has sparked a renewed public discourse about digital media misuse, consent, and online privacy, especially concerning young women.
