The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has initiated the demolition of illegal structures on communal green space at Magnolia Drive, Cypress Hills, San Fernando. The move comes after allegations that a police officer had privatized sections of the car park and adjoining green area. The situation had caused distress among residents, leading to the intervention of the State housing agency. HDC’s Head of Security, Irwin Hackshaw, stated that the structures violated HDC regulations and that further action would be considered if the situation worsened. Residents had expressed concerns over the loss of communal green space intended for public use. The HDC emphasized that communal spaces within housing developments are legally protected and any illicit occupation will be dealt with according to the law. The demolition process took place without any arrests, with police maintaining order.
