Christopher Boodram, the only survivor of the 2022 Paria Fuel Trading Company and LMCS diving tragedy, has expressed relief following a $1 million ex gratia payment announced by Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. The payment, not an admission of liability but a gesture of relief, comes nearly four years after the incident claimed the lives of four divers at Paria’s Pointe-à -Pierre facility. Boodram noted the financial support brings some stability to his family after years of emotional and financial hardships. This incident has highlighted the need for improved workplace safety, emergency response protocols, and accountability in high-risk environments, sparking public outrage and calls for reforms.
