In the recent National Primary Schools’ Panorama competition held at Skinner Park, San Fernando, St Margaret’s Boys’ Anglican School achieved victory, unseating the defending champions, San Fernando Boys’ RC School’s Sando Boys’ Steel. St Margaret’s Boys’ Anglican secured the top position with a score of 279 points, performing Voice’s “Year for Love.” Sando Boys’ Steel, who performed Explainer’s “Lorraine,” finished in third place with 265 points, narrowly missing second place by just one point to Febeau Government Primary School, which scored 266 points with their rendition of Voice’s “Too Own Way.”
During the opening ceremony, Minister of Education Dr. Michael Dowlath emphasized the significance of participation in the competition, stating that it represents a victory for students, tutors, teachers, and parents alike. He highlighted the role of music in children’s development, noting its benefits in critical thinking, literacy, discipline, and teamwork. The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry of Education’s commitment to enhancing arts education.
Gwyneth Morris-Alexander, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Community Development, echoed the importance of the steel pan as a symbol of Trinidad and Tobago’s identity, resilience, and creativity. San Fernando Mayor Robert Parris expressed his support for initiatives benefiting children and described the move of the competition to Skinner Park as a positive change.

- 3. San Fernando Boys’ RC School – 265 points
- 4. St Paul’s Anglican Primary – 262 points
- 5. Guaico Presbyterian School – 257 points
- 6. Escallier Anglican Primary – 254 points
- 7. Barataria Anglican Primary, Nelson Street Boys’ RC, Success RC Primary – 242 points
- 11. Bethlehem Boys’ and Girls’ RC Primary – 235 points
- 12. Morvant Anglican Steel Orchestra – 232 points
This year’s competition showcased the talents of various primary schools, highlighting the importance of music education in the development of young students. The event not only celebrated the achievements of the participating schools but also reinforced the cultural significance of the steel pan in Trinidad and Tobago.
