A legal notice issued on Christmas Day announced the fee hike, which saw the standard customs fee rise from 40 dollars to 80 dollars, and fees at the Container Examination Station significantly increase. The timing and lack of prior public announcement or consultation have drawn criticism. Critics argue that such significant cost increases, which directly impact importers, freight forwarders, logistics companies, and businesses depending heavily on shipping and trade, should be openly discussed and communicated in advance. The increases are expected to result in higher operating costs, clearance delays, and price hikes for consumers. As yet, the Government has not issued a detailed public statement explaining these increases or addressing concerns about their timing and implementation.
