Fans furious as FIFA announces steep World Cup ticket prices
FIFA is under fire after revealing World Cup 2026 ticket prices that supporters and fan organizations are blasting as “outrageous,” “ridiculous,” and a “huge betrayal.”
New pricing released by several national football associations shows costs far higher than what FIFA had previously suggested — particularly for multi-match ticket bundles.
The criticism focuses on matches across the 2026 tournament, which will be held in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. Associations such as England’s and Germany’s posted the updated price lists, sparking widespread anger.
The backlash erupted after the figures began circulating on Thursday, aligning with the launch of FIFA’s third ticket-sales phase and the updated match schedule following last week’s draw.
According to the new list, group-stage tickets will run from roughly $180 to $700, while seats for the final could reach as high as $8,680. The numbers clash sharply with earlier assurances of $60 entry-level group tickets and even past bid claims of $21 options. Fans argue that the new tiered system — which prices games by their “appeal” — is unfair, inconsistent, and breaks with World Cup tradition.
For comparison, tickets for Qatar 2022 ranged from around $70 to $1,600, far below many of the 2026 rates.
