Opposition Leader Dismisses PM’s Mafia Funding Allegations

Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles has refuted Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s allegations that the People’s National Movement (PNM) is being funded by a local drug mafia and promoting an anti-US agenda. These claims, Beckles contends, are unfounded and politically motivated distractions from issues surrounding the US radar systems installation in Tobago. The Prime Minister accused PNM of opposing government initiatives against drug and human trafficking, implying connections with the local drug mafia and paedophilia allegations. Beckles counters these allegations were intended to distract from questions about the radar system and the government’s secrecy around it. On the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections, Beckles remains optimistic about PNM’s chances.
