UNDP, Government Launch Community Flood Warning System

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Trinidad and Tobago have officially launched a Community Flood Early Warning System to bolster national disaster preparedness. The launch took place at the Santa Rosa Government Primary School. Dignitaries, including UNDP Resident Representative Ugo Blanco and Ministers Roger Alexander and Khadijah Ameen, pointed out the significance of early-warning technology, community resilience, and ongoing collaboration between UNDP and the Government. The warning system, funded by the European Commission’s ECHO and implemented under CFEWS Phase 2, offers real-time monitoring and early alerts to mitigate the impact of severe seasonal flooding in vulnerable communities. The day concluded with the unveiling of monitoring equipment and new warning signage at the Gunapo River project site. Both UNDP and Government representatives reiterated their commitment to expanding flood-mitigation measures across the nation.
