Junior Sammy Contractors Ltd, one of the nation’s largest contracting firms, has informed all of its permanent employees of a temporary unpaid leave, effective until the end of January 2026. The Claxton Bay-based company has taken this drastic step, for the first time in 40 years, due to a significant slowdown in major infrastructural projects and unpaid debts for state projects undertaken during the previous PNM administration. The company is part of the Junior Sammy Group of Companies, which also includes Jusamco Pavers Ltd, and Sammy’s Multilift Services. The company’s decision was driven by the inability to secure future contracts and the necessary cost-cutting measures. Employees will be paid up until December 15, and remain employees of the company. The company aims to review the situation in January 2026 to determine the resume date for the employees.
