CPO Thanks Police After Social Media Death Threat Leads to Community Service
Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) Darryl Dindial has praised the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service for their swift action after he received a death threat on social media. The threat, posted under a TikTok video, led to the arrest of 49-year-old Tobago handyman Jason Wright.
Wright, known online as “Buju B,” admitted to writing the comment urging others to “take his life.” He was charged with making a statement prejudicial to public safety under Section 241 of the Emergency Powers Regulations and was sentenced to 240 hours of community service. If he fails to comply, he must pay a $3,000 fine or serve six months in prison.
Dindial, who said the threat made him fear for his family’s safety, warned the public to be responsible online. He noted that while his role in wage negotiations attracts criticism, threats go too far.
This is the second case during the current State of Emergency involving social media posts deemed dangerous. Last month, Diego Martin resident Olive Green-Jack was detained for online comments encouraging violence against Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
