Police seize more than $67 million in marijuana and cocaine over three days
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) says a major drug bust in the Central Division on Wednesday led to the recovery of $47 million worth of marijuana. The operation, carried out by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU), was guided by targeted intelligence and took place between 1 pm and 4:30 pm.
According to a TTPS release, SIU officers—led by Snr Supt Edwards, Supt Etienne, ASP Lynch, and ASP Morales, with assistance from the Inter-Agency Task Force—searched a Central Division home under the Emergency Powers Regulation, 2025. During the search, police discovered 10 crocus bags and five garbage bags filled with cannabis. The drugs were later weighed at 413.68 kilogrammes and valued at $47,687,266.44. Insp Nixon and Insp Ammon oversaw the on-site portion of the search. Two men were arrested in connection with the find.
Commissioner of Police Allister Guevarro praised the SIU and partnering units for the operation, noting that it came just hours after another exercise in which officers recovered $4.4 million worth of cannabis. He said the SIU’s efforts continue to significantly hinder drug-trafficking activity throughout the country.
In a separate operation on Monday, police intercepted more than $16 million worth of cocaine at the ANR Robinson International Airport and detained two women. SIU officers were monitoring outbound passengers around 2:57 pm, particularly those booked on a flight to Frankfurt, Germany.
WPC Pope searched the luggage of a 27-year-old woman from Darceuil Lane, Arima, and found six boxes of cake mix containing hidden cocaine. A second woman, aged 20 and also from Arima, was stopped soon after. Her bags contained five similarly packaged boxes. The drugs weighed 6.385 kilogrammes and 5.372 kilogrammes—11.757 kilogrammes in total—and were valued at $16,388,564.
