Dancehall Artiste Squash Sentenced for Illegal Firearm Possession

Popular dancehall artiste, Andrae “Squash” Whittaker, has been sentenced to two years and three months in a federal prison in Miami for illegal possession of a firearm. Squash, originally from Salt Spring, Montego Bay, was arrested earlier this year during a traffic stop where police discovered a gun in his vehicle. The firearm had an automatic fire switch, also known as a ‘chip Glock’ in Jamaica. After his arrest, Squash was transferred to the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and eventually admitted to the firearm charge as an undocumented immigrant. His lawyers have continuously denied claims of his involvement in an organized criminal gang. This verdict finally concludes months of legal challenges following his arrest in February. Squash, known for his hits ‘Shub Out’ and ‘Big Breeze’, had been residing in the United States for several years without legal residency.
