A 21-year-old man is currently recuperating in a local hospital after being the victim of a targeted shooting in Belmont on Sunday evening. The incident, which happened at approximately 7:20 p.m., took place along Serrano Road, where the victim was seated on an empty beer crate near his residence.
According to the police, a dark green Kia SUV with heavily tinted windows pulled up close to the victim. A man dressed entirely in black emerged from the vehicle and proceeded to open fire, hitting the victim in the leg. After the shooting, the assailant quickly re-entered the vehicle, which then sped away from the scene.
Passers-by who witnessed the incident sprang into action, assisting the wounded man and ensuring he was transported to the hospital. The victim’s condition, however, remains undisclosed.
In response to the shooting, officers from the Inter-Agency Task Force and the Port of Spain Gang Unit were dispatched to the scene. Several spent 9mm shells, presumably from the assailant’s firearm, were recovered. Investigations into this shocking incident are currently ongoing as the authorities aim to bring the perpetrator to justice.
