Guyanese content creator Nelly says he used his social media platforms to promote emerging local entertainers before several of them developed larger audiences of their own.
During a podcast interview, Nelly reflected on his earlier years online and said he regularly used his following to highlight Guyanese singers and other personalities.
He argued that established creators can play an important role in giving emerging talent exposure, particularly when those artists have not yet developed large platforms themselves.
Nelly said he would invite performers onto his content, promote their music and encourage audiences to pay attention to people he believed had potential.
He expressed disappointment that some people he supported during their early careers did not maintain contact after becoming more successful.
Nelly nevertheless said creators with large platforms should recognise the influence they can have when they introduce an emerging personality to a wider audience.
Asked about current Guyanese female performers he enjoys, Nelly named Lola, Mystic and Candy among his favourites.
He said his history of promoting local talent demonstrated that he was willing to use his own audience to help other Guyanese entertainers gain recognition.
