Police are investigating a harrowing incident in which a 57-year-old woman was kidnapped, robbed, and sexually assaulted after entering a vehicle in Vistabella on Tuesday night.
Around 10:15 p.m., the woman got into a burgundy Nissan B15 at a traffic light along Bay Road, Vistabella. According to police reports, the driver appeared normal at first, but soon diverted from the expected route, turning onto Bonne Aventure Road and then Charles Street. He then pulled a mask over his face and announced a robbery.
The victim handed over several items, including her gold earrings, wedding ring, bracelet, watch, and three cell phones.
The suspect continued driving before heading onto Cedar Hill Road, where he ordered the woman out of the vehicle and sexually assaulted her. He then forced her back into the car and drove around the Couva area with her still inside.
The ordeal ended near the Claxton Bay overpass when the woman managed to jump out of the moving vehicle and escape.
She later reported the incident to police, who have launched a search for the suspect and the vehicle. Investigations are ongoing.
