22-Year-Old Faces Court for Attempted Rape

A 22-year-old man stood before the South Ajipa Court on March 24, 2026, facing serious charges of Attempted Rape and Choking with Intent. These charges stem from a harrowing incident that occurred on March 20 in Barrackpore, where the accused allegedly attacked a woman in her home.

The man is accused of approaching the victim from behind, covering her mouth, and beginning to choke her. The attacker then reportedly dragged the woman to a secluded area of the premises with the intent to sexually assault her. The victim, however, managed to escape by hitting the suspect on the foot with a stone and raising an alarm.

Following the incident, investigations were launched by WPC Bertrand, leading to the arrest of the suspect. The investigation continued under the guidance and supervision of a team of experienced officers, including Supt Simon, ASP Chulan, Insp Ragbir, and Ag Sgt Sukram.

Legal advice was sought from PC Jacob, and Supt Bridglal gave instructions to prefer charges against the accused. The accused was granted bail of $75,000 with a surety by Judge Master De Silva, with the stipulation that he resides at his Barrackpore home until his next hearing scheduled for April 21.
