Traders Accuse Sindh Government of Ignoring Safety Suggestions as Autobhan Road Accidents Continue

President of the Hyderabad Chamber of Small Traders & Small Industry (HCSTSI), Muhammad Saleem Memon, has accused the Sindh government of negligence after safety suggestions submitted last year were not implemented, resulting in ongoing fatal accidents on Autobhan Road.

In a press release on Thursday, Memon expressed frustration that despite a detailed letter sent to the Chief Secretary Sindh, most of the chamber’s recommendations remain ignored. The proposals included installing safety grilles to prevent illegal crossings, constructing more foot over bridges, setting up modern traffic surveillance cameras, and forming a special traffic police unit for round-the-clock patrolling.

Memon termed the daily accidents on Autobhan Road as worrisome, highlighting the loss of precious human lives and continuous damage to property. He noted that while the Sindh government’s construction and expansion of the road improved infrastructure and traffic flow, the project’s success hinges on making the highway completely safe.

The chamber also demanded action against one-way violations, wrong-way driving, illegal parking, encroachments, and speeding, along with clear road markings, reflective sign boards, zebra crossings, and proper street lights. Memon warned that without timely safety measures, the risk of further loss of lives remains high.

Autobhan Road is a key commercial artery in Hyderabad, used daily by thousands of vehicles, motorcycles, students, employees, traders, and citizens. Memon appealed to the chief secretary to issue immediate instructions to concerned departments for implementing a comprehensive traffic management and road safety plan on a priority basis.
