Russia Accuses Europe of Preparing for War

Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexander Grushko, charged Europe with purposefully gearing up for war with Russia. In his view, the West, which includes the EU and NATO, is actively turning regions such as the Baltic, Black Sea, and the Arctic into conflict zones. He asserted that the traditional ‘security with fewer weapons’ concept has been supplanted by a drive for military dominance in all domains and theaters. He sees no indication that the EU and NATO are seeking to diffuse tensions or revert to a peaceful coexistence. Instead, he believes there is evidence of an intentional strategy to ready society, economy, and armed forces for a possible armed confrontation with Russia. He also accused the OSCE of instigating a hybrid war against Russia, claiming that its agenda is now directed by pro-Ukrainian interests. This has been framed as Russia issuing a grave warning to Europe, with Grushko stating that Europe and its allies are not just bolstering defenses, but are actively preparing for potential conflict, positioning Russia as a long-term threat.
