Laoag City is tightening its peace and order campaign. Mayor James Bryan Alcid met with barangay tanods and officials led by ABC president Rbee Ablan to enforce stricter security measures across the city’s 80 barangays and schools.
The meeting included Schools Division Superintendent Joan Corpuz, police chief Lt. Col. Ryan Retotar, and CDRRM officer Dr. Melvin Manuel. The directive aims to prevent crimes and illegal activities by strengthening coordination between barangay peacekeepers, police, and schools.
To meet the ideal police-to-population ratio, the city government has requested Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. to deploy 106 additional police personnel. Vice Mayor Rey Carlos Fariñas noted that Laoag serves as the economic and educational hub of Ilocos Norte, requiring increased police visibility to protect its daytime population and students across 64 public and private schools.
