Kia Corp., the second-largest automotive manufacturer in South Korea, has announced that its cumulative domestic sales of electric vehicles (EVs) have surpassed 100,000 units this year. According to reports from the Yonhap news agency, this milestone marks the first time an automaker operating in South Korea has reached such a figure for electric vehicle sales within a single year.
Data provided by the company indicates that between January and September 17, Kia sold 100,118 electric vehicles. This figure represents more than double the 45,518 units sold during the same period in 2025. Electric vehicles currently account for 23.8 percent of Kia’s total domestic sales of 420,426 vehicles for the year, meaning nearly one in every four cars sold by the manufacturer is electric.
The company’s current electric lineup includes the EV3, EV4, and EV5 sedans, the EV6 and EV9 SUVs, and the PV5 purpose-built vehicle (PBV). Kia is also expanding its PBV offerings, having introduced the PV7 model in Germany last month. The company plans to launch the PV7 Cargo Long and PV7 Passenger Long models in South Korea and Europe during the second half of 2027.
A Kia official stated that the company intends to strengthen its leadership in the domestic electric vehicle market by continuing to expand its range of purpose-built vehicles, including the upcoming PV7.
