A prison officer is under investigation following a road traffic accident in Laventille after a man at the scene alleged that the officer appeared unable to stand properly.
The incident reportedly occurred near the intersection of the Eastern Main Road and the highway in Laventille.
Video footage circulating from the scene shows a man confronting the officer and claiming that he had difficulty getting the officer’s information following the accident.
“This guy here cannot even stand up,” the man is heard saying in the video, while alleging that the officer initially refused to provide his information.
Eyewitnesses at the scene also alleged that the officer smelled strongly of alcohol. However, there has been no official confirmation that the officer was intoxicated, and it is not known whether any breathalyser or other alcohol test was conducted.
Police and emergency personnel responded to the incident.
The prison officer has not been publicly identified, and the circumstances surrounding the accident remain under investigation.
