Jamaica: Jamaica Customs Agency Implements New Vehicle Import Policy

Effective Monday, June 22, the Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) has announced a new policy regarding the importation of motor vehicles by authorized new car dealers. According to a statement issued by the JCA, new vehicles will now be released immediately upon arrival at the port.

Under this new procedure, vehicles imported by authorized dealers will not undergo inspection prior to their release. Instead, they will be subject to post-clearance verification after leaving the port. This change is based on ongoing assessments that have identified vehicles from authorized new car dealers as low risk.

The JCA aims to streamline the import process for new vehicles, which may lead to reduced wait times for both dealers and customers. The agency has reiterated its commitment to maintaining safety and compliance standards while facilitating trade in the automotive sector.

This development represents a significant shift in the customs process for new vehicle imports in Jamaica. It reflects the JCA’s efforts to adapt to the evolving landscape of vehicle trade and to provide support to authorized dealers in the market.

Further details regarding the implementation of this new policy are expected to be released by the JCA in the coming days.
