Father Remembers Brilliant Son Lost After Tragic Highway Motorcycle Crash

FATHER REMEMBERS BRILLIANT SON LOST IN HIGHWAY CRASH
The father of 15-year-old Idris Hosein is remembering his son not for the tragic circumstances of his death, but for the remarkable young man he was.
Idris, a Form Three student of Queen’s Royal College, lost his life in a motorcycle crash along the westbound lane of the Churchill-Roosevelt Highway on Saturday. Police said the collision occurred when the motorcycle came into contact with the rear left side of a Nissan Tiida as the driver was changing lanes. The teenager was thrown onto the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene despite wearing a helmet.
Speaking in the aftermath of the tragedy, Idris’ father, Arif Hosein, described his son as an exceptional student who excelled in both academics and sports.
“He wasn’t just bright, he was a brilliant young man,” his father said, adding that Idris consistently earned awards each school term and had recently selected science subjects as he prepared to enter Form Four. The family had hoped he would one day earn a scholarship.
Beyond the classroom, Idris had also become one of the youngest youth leaders in the Scout movement.
“When the older ones couldn’t make the knots, they would call on Idris. He would teach the younger scouts the basics. His friends would come by the house and he would show them how to tie knots. He was very involved,” his father recalled.
As criticism circulated online following the crash, Hosein defended his son’s character, saying the teenager should not be defined by one decision.
“I know children make mistakes and do foolish things, but this wasn’t the kind of child Idris was,” he said.
According to his father, Idris had only been riding a small training motorcycle under supervision and did not have permission to take the larger motorcycle involved in Saturday’s crash.
“I would never let him take that bike on his own. He knew how strict I was,” Hosein said, explaining that he had always placed a strong emphasis on motorcycle safety.
Now, he is left searching for answers.
“My last conversation with him was on Friday night, where I told him I loved him and he said everything was OK at home. The next day was when I got the call. That is not who he was. He has never done anything like this. I still need to find out who encouraged him, where he was going and why.”
Police said the driver of the Nissan and his two passengers were not injured. The driver has reportedly been warned of intended prosecution as investigations into the collision continue.
As family, friends and the wider community mourn Idris’ passing, many are remembering a young man whose life was marked by leadership, kindness and academic promise—qualities they say should not be overshadowed by the tragedy that claimed his life.
