In a shocking turn of events, Richard Renalis, a 27-year-old taxi driver also known as ‘Crime Boss’, is expected to be charged with the murder of 12-year-old Mercedez Layne. Mercedez, a resident of Los Iros, Erin, was last seen when her grandfather placed her in a vehicle to return home on Saturday. Tragically, she never arrived.
Her body was discovered the following morning in a forested area in Carapal, Erin by a local villager. The grim discovery prompted a search led by the TTPS and the Hunters Search and Rescue Teams.
Mercedez was a beloved figure at the St. Francis/Erin RC Primary School where she was a student. The school took to social media to share the devastating news, expressing deep sadness and grief at the loss. She was described as a gracious student, always ready to participate in school activities and a source of encouragement and joy to her peers.
Remembered for her radiant smile and courage, Mercedez’s memory will forever be treasured within the school and the wider community. The heartfelt post concluded with the school uniting in prayer for her family and loved ones during this time of deep sorrow.
