Chhattisgarh Expands Medical Education with New Colleges

Chhattisgarh has made a significant stride in enhancing its medical education framework with the approval of five new government medical colleges. Effective from the academic session 2026-27, these institutions will introduce 250 additional MBBS seats across the states, specifically located in Geedam, Kunkuri, Manendragarh, Janjgir-Champa, and Kabirdham. According to Chief Minister Vishnudev Sai, this initiative is pivotal for the state’s healthcare infrastructure and educational framework.

The approval from the National Medical Commission (NMC) aims not just to expand educational opportunities but also to ensure healthcare access for local populations, reducing the need for students to travel outside the state for medical training. Sai expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister JP Nadda, emphasizing the government’s goal of creating a modern, inclusive healthcare system.

With a special focus on previously underdeveloped regions, including areas affected by Naxal insurgency, these new colleges are expected to provide quality medical education and increase the availability of specialized doctors in the localities. This, in turn, will bolster employment opportunities and contribute significantly to regional development, as stated by Sai. The government’s aim is to continuously strengthen the healthcare and educational infrastructure across Chhattisgarh for a better future.
