A bowling masterclass from Axar Patel, supported by disciplined pace from Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar, helped India bowl out England for 258 in the first ODI at Edgbaston on Tuesday.
Patel was the standout performer, taking four wickets with his accurate left-arm spin, breaking England’s resistance in the middle overs. Prasidh Krishna and Brar chipped in with two wickets each, while Jasprit Bumrah claimed his 150th ODI wicket.
England opted to bat first and started strongly, but lost five wickets for just 19 runs in the middle overs. Joe Root anchored the innings with an unbeaten 76, while Liam Dawson scored a counter-attacking 68 to help England cross 250.
India now requires 259 runs to win the opening match and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
