**OTTAWA** — Statistics Canada reported that Canada’s national unemployment rate stood at 6.4 per cent in July.
Alongside the national figure, the federal agency released seasonally adjusted, three-month moving average unemployment rates for major metropolitan areas. Statistics Canada cautioned that these local figures are subject to wider fluctuations because they are derived from smaller statistical samples.
The jobless rates for July, with the corresponding figures from the previous month in parentheses, are as follows:
* St. John’s, N.L.: 7.0 per cent (7.0)
* Halifax: 5.7 per cent (5.6)
* Moncton, N.B.: 7.8 per cent (7.9)
